Join Us for Arbor Day 2020!
Betton Hills neighbors will be celebrating Arbor Day this Saturday, January 25 from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM at McCord Park. Park in the Armistead Road parking area. Look for the refreshment table.
We have a lot to do in two hours, so please join us and bring your friends!
We’ll start by announcing the winners for the We Dig Our Trees poetry and drawing contest. Come congratulate the kids!
After a brief meeting and some warming refreshments, we will plant a white oak tree in the Armistead woodland and will mulch the other plants in that area. We will also plant a red maple tree in another area of the park.
Bluebird nest boxes and wood duck box will be cleaned out in preparation of the upcoming nesting season.
We plan to focus most of our time on invasive plant removal in the large woodland to the west of McCord Pond, where we have been removing ardisia, privet and other invasives over the years. There is a lot to do here so we hope you will join the effort!
It should be a fun and rewarding morning. We will meet no matter how cold but will cancel if raining. Bring garden gloves, shovel, mattock, pruners, loppers; we will have some extra tools if you don’t have your own. There are chores for all ages and strengths. Children welcome, teenagers encouraged! Coffee, hot chocolate and some treats will be served at 9:00 AM.
